2 researchers Faculty of Science receive ERC Starting Grant
|
Researchers from Utrecht have been awarded an ERC Starting Grant, including Science colleagues Danny Broere and Bas van Ravensteijn. The grant will help the group to set up their own research project, assemble a team and realise scientific ideas. Click the button to read more about the research on making the production of nitrogenous molecules more sustainable and on the manufacturing process of nanopharmaceuticals. |

New antibiotic possibly potent weapon against superbugs
|
A new antibiotic derived from bacteria that previously could not be studied appears to be able to fight harmful bacteria and multi-resistant 'superbugs'. The substance Clovibactin kills bacteria in an unusual way, making it difficult for these bacteria to become resistant to the drug.
Researchers from UU and elsewhere published the discovery in the journal Cell, after which it was picked up by international media. |

From PhD research to cancer treatment |
After training in the pharmaceutical sciences, Lucas Czentner worked in the pharmaceutical industry. His personal experiences with cancer drove the researcher to pursue PhD research. Lucas advises Master's students who are considering a PhD to first gain some experience outside the academic world.
