First Dutch Motion Capture and VR lab opened in Utrecht! |
Utrecht University recently opened its Motion Capture and Virtual Reality Lab, equipped with the latest technology available in the field. It is the only lab at this scale in the Netherlands. Students from Game and Media Technology (GMT) masters, AI and HCI Masters and Bachelors are using this lab. For example, in one project students collected facial and body movement data during dyadic conversations to automatically generate animations for virtual humans. In another work, they analyzed the perception of photorealistic virtual humans and their impact on people.
It is also used as part of the Computer Animation course offered by the GMT masters program. Students work in groups in the lab and create animation movies similar to Pixar and Disney. PhD students use the lab actively for their research, either for data collection or for experimentation.
